16/07/08
NFT, one of the leading providers of time critical logistics services for the food retail and manufacturing sectors, has announced two new appointments to ensure continuous improvement across its operations.
Peter Gifford joins the team as Chief Operating Officer for NFT’s Asda-dedicated Primary business and the company’s Shared User Network (SUN). With a 22-year management record in the logistics sector, Gifford will be responsible for maximising synergies across Asda’s two dedicated depots and the SUN, which has more than 70 customers and provides nationwide coverage from four UK sites.
In addition, Gary Ferguson has been appointed as Projects Director. Ferguson will be responsible for introducing new customer-focused, cost-efficient business systems and operations. This includes best-practice models for warehouse management and leading the opening of additional, strategically placed sites that will help increase warehouse capacity for NFT’s customers.
David Frankish, Chief Executive of NFT, said: “Both Peter and Gary join at an exciting time as we embark on a new programme of investment to enhance our operations across the board. From expanding chill and ambient warehouse capacity, to best-in-class IT systems and collaborative working to reduce empty mileage, NFT is committed to offering industry-leading service levels and I am confident the new appointments will help realise our ambitious plans for 2008 and beyond.”
NFT, which has a fleet of some 350 vehicles, delivers more than 85,000 pallets of fresh food each week. The business has eight UK sites that employ more than 1,500 employees and its client base consists of major retailers including Asda, Co-op, Morrisons, Marks & Spencer, Sainsbury’s and Waitrose, together with leading manufacturers such as Cranswick, Northern Foods and Manor Fresh Produce.
