NFT GEARS UP NEW FLEET TO CUT DOWN CARBON FOOTPRINT

NFT Distribution, the leading provider of time critical logistics services for the food retail and manufacturing sectors, has invested almost £3 million in new vehicles designed to significantly reduce the company’s carbon footprint.
The company has taken delivery of 30 new Euro 5 SCR Volvo FM12 tractor units that together save up to five per cent Kilometres Per Litre (KPL) compared to the Euro 3 equivalent. These eco-efficiencies also entitle NFT to reduced road tax for each vehicle, providing further cost savings.
David Seaton, National Fleet Engineer at NFT, comments: “In line with our policy to continually work towards a greener environment, the company is committed to improving upon the European regulations for exhaust emissions.
“We have pledged to upgrade our entire Shared User Network vehicle fleet every two years, with half the fleet of 100 vehicles being changed each year to accommodate this. With each of our lorries travelling over 250,000 miles each year, this system allows us to maintain a reliable, efficient and aesthetically impressive fleet, as well as continually reduce our carbon footprint.”
As part of its green strategy, NFT’s nationwide fleet is now running with a five per cent bio-diesel mix. The company has also trialled a 52 mph speed limit, down from the usual 56mph, which has successfully cut fuel consumption by an additional 5 per cent and operates aerodynamic trailers boasting skirts and roof diffusers.
Seaton continues: "We are constantly looking for new and innovative ways to improve our environmental record. It is an ethos that resonates throughout the whole company, from our senior management right through to our operations and administrative support staff."
